Not lost in history a letter the 4th Earl of Chesterfield wrote to his son still rings true today said: “There is enough time for everything, in the course of a day, if you do but one thing at once; but there is not enough time in the year, if you do two things at a time.” How true your highness. I read this a couple weeks ago and am now have been beginning to realize its power.
I’ve been trying to do a lot of different arts things, hence internetartdistrict, but not getting too far in a single one… I’ve been trying to make music, make all sorts of fine art, and even was recently trying start a calligraphy business on top of work and school. I’m not going to give up all my fine arts art ideas but I am going to cut out most of the music and the calligraphy from my never completed schedule.
I’m being pulled, by myself, in too many directions. A poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox [that was not intended for a certain interpretation I have] goes:
One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
‘Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
I found a side interpretation that I cannot sail East and West simultaneously. I think she is talking about finding direction. Like one must choose their path… it’s a good poem I must say. I must have my sails set on an Etsy shop rather than changing directions twice a day.
I’ve heard “We overestimate what we can do in a day but underestimate what we can do in a year.” I find that quote by Bill Gates quite powerful. I was looking through my camera roll this evening and went back almost a year for a certain screenshot I was searching for. I thought it had been much longer ago for sure!
A year is a very long time. Sometimes it doesn’t seem that way when looking back at certain things or thinking ahead. Save just 100$ a month, 25$ dollars a week, That’s over 1,000$ in a year. A year is a long time indeed. Christmas was only about half a year ago!
But I am motivated when I think about that Bill Gates quote. And now that I am going to only be focusing on painting I should get quite a lot done!
I got two paintings done this week.

I also worked on my big painting a small amount and made some more good progress. I made a list of painting ideas and am going to refer to it when I have time for a session. Hopefully I can cross more off that list this coming week.
