This week I’ve almost finished up J.D. Salinger’s “Catcher in the Rye” ~ Amazing read! I’ve found myself thinking like Holden calling people goddamn phonies in my head. Then I realized I’m a GD phony.
I want to be an artist. So sometimes I sit around and shop for clothes an artist would wear. Like a black stripey shirt or a cool beret hat, haven’t shopped around for wooden clogs yet but there’s no shortage of 2 A.M.s where I can’t sleep so. I was so concerned with being an artist that looking like an artist came before acting like an artist.
Quick side story: I used to have a mullet and I thought it was really cool and then my parents kept telling me to cut it and I never did. One day my Dad showed me a YouTube video of modern artists all being interviewed like Jeff Koons and Damien Hurst and stuff and he said ‘notice none of them have mullets, they are all clean cut.’ I then got a hair cut.
That’s how much I want to be an artist; but to be an artist is to make art ~ a lot (I’m now sort of realizing).

Making a lot of art will lead to improved and accumulated skills; and lead to your own version of perfect that no one else has ever done. That’s what I want to do. Not to be a phony. Not to dress in a fancy hat and drink a latte waiting for girls to look at me. Not to twirl my mustache staring at a piece of modern art for 2 hours drinking wine at a fancy event.
I want to make art.
It’s just, painting is energy consuming and time consuming but I’ve been taking naps more, shorter naps be that, and Im having some more energy and time. I’ve also made the most of little times gaps and have been getting a lot more done! I still need my rest and stuff but.
I just finished up a class and have been working 2 jobs so I have to give myself some credit and some breaks. The credit I get is I finished half of the large painting I’m working on, and it’s pretty darn good! HOORAY! I must say I’m quite pleased with how it’s turning out. Just a few more weeks. Or a week or two if I really be an artist ~ paint paint painting awayyyyyy…
